VN-China cooperation steering committee holds 8th meeting

The two sides discussed cooperative areas to strictly realize agreements reached by the two nations’ Parties and States during Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China in April this year as well as Action Plan on promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership relations.

The two leaders consented to maintain regular visits and exchanges between the two countries’ high-ranking leaders, launch effectively the cooperative plan between the two Parties in the 2016-2020 phase and organize a number of people-to-people exchange activities in 2015.

They also identified key works to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two sides’ ministries, agencies and localities in such areas as diplomacy, national defense, security, legal enforcement.

The host and the guest were unanimous in taking measures to accelerate cooperation in fields of economic-commerce, sustainable investment, agriculture, health, transport, science-technology, culture, education, press and facilitate boosted economic development and cooperation between border localities.

They frankly discussed issues arising at sea, asserting to follow the crucial joint awareness reached between the two nations’ Parties and States and the “Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between Viet Nam and China”, use effectively government-level negotiation mechanisms for the Viet Nam-China territorial border, use negotiations to seek basic and long-term solutions acceptable for both countries to controlling differences at sea; fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC); work towards the formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC); and avoid any actions that complicate disputes in order to maintain the Viet Nam-China partnership as well as peace and stability in the East Sea.

After the meeting, Deputy PM Minh and State Councilor Yang Yiechi witnessed the signing ceremony of the proceedings of the eighth session of the Steering Committee for Viet Nam-China Bilateral Cooperation.
